Sonic the Hedgehog

SEGA released the first game featuring the titular character, Sonic the Hedgehog, on June 23rd, 1991, introducing us to the speedy blue hedgehog who loves adventure, freedom, and never backs down from a challenge. Dr. Eggman debuted alongside Sonic in 1991 as the main antagonist, who dreams of dominating the world and oftentimes traps helpless animals in his robots to use for his nefarious purposes.

As the series continued, we were introduced to an even bigger cast of characters including Miles “Tails” Prower, a two-tailed fox, and Knuckles the Echidna. Tails, Sonic’s best friend first introduced in 1992 in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, can spin his two tails quickly enough to fly. A mechanical genius, he looks up to Sonic and oftentimes aids in his journeys. Knuckles the Echidna appeared in the following game, Sonic the Hedgehog 3. As the guardian of the Master Emerald, he will stop at nothing to protect the Emerald and his home of Angel Island from anyone who wishes to abuse its powers.

  •     Obverse: Displays the Niue coat of arms along with the face value and year of issue surrounded by officially licensed SEGA imagery.
  •     Reverse: Features an officially licensed image of Sonic the Hedgehog, along with the inscription "SONIC THE HEDGEHOG" and the 30th anniversary logo.

Niue Coins

A tiny country in the South Pacific Ocean with a population of just 1,600, the island of Niue lies 1,491 miles northeast of New Zealand within the triangle formed by Tonga, Samoa and the Cook Islands.

But despite its small size, Niue has recently emerged as a big player on the world's collectible coin market – releasing 99.9% pure silver coins with officially licensed designs that feature everything from the classic Star Wars characters to Disney favorites like Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Cinderella.

As a member of the Commonwealth of Nations, each Niue coin features Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II on its obverse.

Silver Niue coins have been struck by the New Zealand Mint since 2008, and all are Niue legal tender. The New Zealand Mint has been minting legal tender commemorative coins, bullion and medallions for more than four decades. As New Zealand's only precious metal Mint and one of the first world Mints to adopt the 99.99% standard for gold coin purity, the Mint takes pride in its high quality design and production work, adding even more luster to each of  Niue's distinctive silver coins.

Presentation & Mintage

Each 1oz Silver Bullion Coin is presented in an individual protective acrylic capsule. Each bullion product comes with a complementary bullion bag.

No more than 30,000 of these coins will be released. Production will cease when the mintage is fully sold or at the end of 2021.
