Shrek 20th Anniversary

Originally based on a children's picture book of the same name, the rights to Shrek were purchased by Stephen Spielberg and made into the Dreamworks film that we all know and love today. Shrek was originally voiced by Chris Farley, but later reworked with Mike Meyers after Farley passed away in the middle of the project. Mike Meyers brought his signature humor and Scottish accent to the role and made the character who he is today. Shrek undermines every expectation of the selfless knight in shining armor who sets forth to rescue the damsel in distress. When a local tyrant, Lord Farquad (played by John Lithgow), begins rounding up fairytale creatures and dumping them at Shrek's swamp, the titular anti-hero angrily sets out only to have them removed. Conscious of being judged for what he is, Shrek turns out to be a more nuanced character and endears himself to the audience as the misunderstood underdog.

  • Obverse: Features the coat of arms of Niue along with the denomination and year of issue.
  • Reverse: Features the officially licensed Shrek logo along with Shrek with his arm around his pal Donkey while smiling and giving a thumbs up.

Niue Coins

A tiny country in the South Pacific Ocean with a population of just 1,600, the island of Niue lies 1,491 miles northeast of New Zealand within the triangle formed by Tonga, Samoa and the Cook Islands.

But despite its small size, Niue has recently emerged as a big player on the world's collectible coin market – releasing 99.9% pure silver coins with officially licensed designs that feature everything from the classic Star Wars characters to Disney favorites like Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Cinderella.

As a member of the Commonwealth of Nations, each Niue coin features Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II on its obverse.

Silver Niue coins have been struck by the New Zealand Mint since 2008, and all are Niue legal tender. The New Zealand Mint has been minting legal tender commemorative coins, bullion and medallions for more than four decades. As New Zealand's only precious metal Mint and one of the first world Mints to adopt the 99.99% standard for gold coin purity, the Mint takes pride in its high quality design and production work, adding even more luster to each of  Niue's distinctive silver coins.

Presentation & Mintage

Each 1oz Silver Bullion Coin is presented in an individual protective acrylic capsule. Each bullion product comes with a complementary bullion bag.

No more than 20,000 of these coins will be released. Production will cease when the mintage is fully sold or at the end of 2021.
